Hirox lenses are not just adaptations of conventional microscope optics; each lens has been specifically designed and optimized for use with a CCD video array. The design results in high resolution images with great depth of field at a relatively long working distance. A typical Hirox zoom lens contains 14 lens elements in four lens groupings. There are even two lenses just to control the lighting! As the lens is zoomed from low to high magnification the lighting is focused to a progressively smaller spot for shadow less lighting. Taking advantage of their unusually long working distance and great depth of field several of these lenses have attachments that produce live 3-D Rotational Microscopy images.  Of these lenses the MX-5040Z PowerZoom is particularly unique - it is a modular design lens, capable of magnifications from 20x to 800x, 3-D Rotational Microscopy, laser aided "Z" measurement and much more.
